Governor Ahmed Abdullahi today held a crisis meeting with the county steering group that coordinates and responds to droughts and emergencies.

This comes in the wake of a National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) report that lists Wajir as the county most affected by current droughts prevailing in most parts of the country.

The meeting was attended by the Departments of Health, Water and Education as well as partner NGO’s like NDMA, Save the Children, Mercy Corps, ADESO as well as local organizations ALDEF and WASDA.

Abdullahi termed the condition of his county as disastrous and called for immediate interventions from all stakeholders.

The report indicates that more than 180,000 households have been affected by the drought and are in dire need of urgent assistance.

Immediate measures agreed upon include hastening relief food distribution and water tracking.
