President Uhuru Kenyatta has today assented to the Security (Amendment) Act 2014 effectively making it a law.

The bill was passed by Parliament on Thursday in a special sitting that turned chaotic after fracas erupted in the house.

Speaking at State House after signing the law, the President said that the new piece of legislation does not violate the constitution.

He added that the new law will play a vital role in curbing terrorisms and other crimes such as poaching and cross border illegal trade.

He urged Kenyans to carefully read and understand it adding that it was only an instrument among many measures that would be put in place in order to improve security.
