Leaders from North Eastern Kenya have asked the government to immediately relocate the Dadaab refugee camps terming it a breeding ground for terrorist.
Speaking after leading Garissa residents in a demonstration against Al-Shabaab, the leaders who spoke in one voice proposed a raft of measures including relocation of the camps.
Wajir Senator Abdirahman Ali Hassan alias Olow said that the country had suffered a lot since the refugees moved in pointing out environmental degradation and security matters.
“We want the government to immediately relocate the camps to inside Somalia and preferably Dhobley” said the agitated Senator.
His sentiments were echoed by Majority leader Aden Duale and Fafi MP Elias Barre Shill.
Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Mr. Adan Mohamed called on Kenyans to remain calm and face the enemy from a united front.
“We shall never fall for their tactics of dividing us along tribal and religious lines” he said amid cheers from the crowd.
Elected and nominated leaders from the three counties of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera were in attendance.
