Up to 42 families in Dertu division of Dadaab sub-county in Garissa will no longer sleep in the dark after the Dertu millennium project installed solar systems in their homes.

The initiative which was carried out on cost sharing basis between the project and area residents supplements similar ones previously installed at offices and institutions in the area.

Area member of county assembly Mr. Abdi Ali confirmed to Nepjournal that up to 30 farmers were also trained on modern farming methods and given plastic containers for rain water harvesting.

“Mosquito nets were also distributed to residents of Dertu, Bahuri and neighboring settlements. These will protect them from Malaria at this time when there are a lot of mosquitoes due to the recent rains” he said.

The Millennium Village of Dertu is approximately 95km north of Garissa town.
