A Nairobi bound bus from Mandera was this morning swept by floods as it attempted to cross a seasonal river in Gadudia, 35 KM from Mandera town.

Confirming the incident, Mandera County commissioner Mr. Alex ole Nkoyo said that a team from the Red Cross were on the ground to rescue the passengers.

“The water level is coming down and we have formed a human wall to help rescue those on the bus and those who might have drowned,” he added.

The Tawakal owned bus was fully booked as seen from the passenger manifest.

Due to the poor state of roads in the region, transport is normally paralyzed whenever it rains.
