Garissa Governor, Senator leave for ONLF homecoming in Ethiopia

Garissa Governor Ali Korane and Senator Yusuf Haji and a host of other Kenyan Somali leaders who traveled to Ethiopia to attend the homecoming ceremony of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).

The ONLF commanders are returning to the Somali State headquarter town of Jigjiga for the first time in 24 years following a recent reconciliation process initiated by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abby Ahmed.

Ahmed who has been hailed as a reformist due to his domestic and international brand of politics that changed the Ethiopian discourse has deregisterd ONLF and several other movements as rebel organizations leading to a peace process that allows them free movement and active participation in socio-political affairs in the country.

Regional UNHCR envoy Ambassador Mohamed Affey and Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan are also in town for the ceremony.

ONLF has been fighting the Ethiopian government in a resistance seeking self-rule or secession for the Somali State of Ethiopia.
