Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has posted new police heads to Garissa County days after senior officers serving in the area were sent packing on different counts of misconduct.

Mr. Shadrack Maithya is the new county commander while Mr. Nicholas Maina takes over as the OCPD.

In a reshuffle that has also affected other counties, Turkana’s Emmanuel Karisa and Nakuru County’s John Koki have been transferred to police headquarters. The latter’s place will be taken by Hassan Barua of Baringo County.

Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and Police IG Mr. Boinet on Tuesday cracked the whip and sent home North Eastern regional coordinator Ernest Munyi, Garissa County Commissioner Njenga Miiri, AP Commander Christopher Muthee, CID boss Musa Yego, County Commander Charles Wambugu and Garissa County OCPD Benjamin Ongombe.

Sources say investigations revealed negligence of duty on their part in the way they handled the attack on Garissa University College where up to 148 people lost their lives.
