Garissa County to invest heavily in ECD

Governor Nathif Jama said that his administration will put more resources in Early Childhood development – ECD in order to up lift the standards of education in the county.

Noting that ECD is the foundation of education, Jama said that his government will build more than 180 ECD classrooms throughout the County.

To keep the young learners in school, the head of the county added that they will provide nutritious food and health care facilities at all schools.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony of 164 ECD teaching staff held in Garissa, Mr. Jama attributed the County’s dismal performance in national examinations to poor foundation – ECD.

He said the County will put in place all the necessary requirements to ensure the sector flourishes.

“In order to achieve our educational goals and promote childhood education, I direct, The County Executive of education and other county education stakeholders to come up with a legal framework that will guide and support early childhood education in our county.” He Said.

Mr. Jama also reminded the graduands to play their role actively as the County will not tolerate any laxity from their side.

The governor also announced that the County will set aside 10Million and provide logistic support to the County education board led by veteran educationist Mr. Idris Mohamed Farah.

The board is expected to undertake monitoring and evaluation of education systems in schools in the County.

Speaking at the same venue, Mr. Farah thanked the Governor for supporting this important sector in the education system and vowed to make it a shining example to the rest of the Country.

The function was also attended by County Commissioner Mr. Rashid Khator, Education CEC Mr. Hussein Hajir, education official from the County and the National Government.
