Al Shabaab raids Hulugho again, incursion briefly halts KCSE exams

Somalia based Al Shabaab militants invaded Hulugho Town of Garissa County on Tuesday a day after a brief incursion on the border town.

Sources indicate the group destroyed a Safaricom communication mast with unconfirmed reports indicating the militants took hostage those guarding the facility.

The incursion jeopardized operations in the restive town with students currently sitting the national examinations, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mostly affected.

In what appears coordinated attacks, two gunmen raided a secondary school in Abaqore on Tuesday morning but no casualties were reported.

Police officers guarding the institution thwarted the attack after fighting off the attackers.

It was not clear who carried out the attacks in Abaqore as police were yet to conclude investigations by the time of going to press.
